What homes in central Adelaide are like
Central Adelaide is a ring of old and new. Inside the parklands, the CBD is mostly apartments, student flats and rentals, where end-of-lease carpet cleans and quick lounge cleans are common. North Adelaide, just over the river, has some of the oldest stone terraces and villas in the state, often with wool carpet and good rugs.
To the east, Norwood, Kent Town and St Peters are full of sandstone villas and cottages, many with polished floors and large rugs. Further east toward the hills, Rose Park, Toorak Gardens and Burnside have substantial homes with quality wool carpet and fine furniture that people keep for decades.
South of the city, Unley, Parkside, Goodwood and Malvern mix bluestone cottages near the tram line with family villas on leafy streets. To the north, Prospect, Walkerville and Medindie have bungalows, grand homes and riverside streets with plenty of dogs. In the inner west, Bowden and Brompton have new townhouses and apartments, while Thebarton, Mile End, Torrensville and Richmond keep their workers’ cottages and post-war homes.
Wherever you live, the service is the same. You call, we quote on the phone, and a Chem-Dry technician comes to you. Chem-Dry’s Hot Carbonating Extraction uses about 80% less water than typical steam cleaning, which matters in Adelaide’s cool, damp winters when soaked carpet can stay wet for hours with the windows shut. In hot, dry summers, less water also means less chance of leftover residue attracting dust.
Many homes in the area are rented, so property managers and landlords call between tenants, and renters call before their final inspection. Others are family homes that have been lived in for decades, where the carpet is good quality and worth looking after rather than replacing. Pets are everywhere, from city apartment cats to dogs that walk the River Torrens path and the parklands every day. That mix is why each area page below talks about the homes and jobs that are most common in that part of Adelaide, and answers the questions people there ask most often.
If your suburb is close to the list but not on it, call anyway. The boundary is not a hard line, and we’ll tell you straight away whether a Chem-Dry technician can reach your street.
